There has been a lot of discussion in recent years about the effectiveness of PSA screening to identify prostate cancer. Over the past few years we have had several cases where our onsite wellness screenings have detected prostate cancer in its early stages.

We recently received yet another testimonial from an employee of one of our customers that shows just how beneficial the screening can be when used properly:

I don’t know how often you get any response to the wellness testing, but I would like to provide you my recent experience.

Last year when I participated in the VAP and wellness testing, my test results indicated I had an elevated PSA number. As this is information I monitor, I took it to my healthcare provider for review. After his review, he requested another blood test for PSA and found similar results.

He then determined that another opinion by a specialist would be in my best interest and coordinated that visit accordingly. After the specialist reviewed the information from both blood tests for PSA, he recommended a biopsy which revealed positive indications for prostate cancer.

After consultation we made the decision to take proactive measures to eliminate this from developing into the future, and potentially more life-threatening problems.

I am pleased to say the treatment was successful and most effective and my PSA testing is now normal, with no indications of additional treatments needed.

Up until the time the company offered wellness testing, I had no indications of any problems. It was through this testing that I was able to learn more and move forward with this information toward better, long term health.

I am sure those who make the decisions on what health services to provide employees weigh the cost/ benefit of services. I am now an advocate of such services! When I consider the possible outcome of being unaware of this potentially life-threatening illness, words of thanks for these health monitoring services ring very hollow.
