Heed these 10 tips to clean the house or office after colds and flu have spread.
It’s cold and flu season, which means most people are on guard, washing hands diligently and steering clear of people hacking and coughing.But what should people do if a sick person shows up at their home or office? How do they properly clean to ensure the illness doesn’t spread?Here are a few tips to ensure a healthy office and home after someone’s been sick.
Encourage hand washing. Post a sign in the bathrooms. Include language like “Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds.”
Wipe down all common areas daily with an antibacterial Clorox wipe. This includes door knobs, counter tops, water fountain, sink handles, toilet flush levers, light switches, garbage can handles and other places people touch.
Wipe down commonly used objects. This includes TV remotes, lamp switches, keyboards, mice, printer control panels, phones and the coffee maker.
Remove trash immediately, including tissues left on counter tops. Empty waste baskets at least once a day.
Wash towels, bedding, table cloths, etc. using hot water hot, if the fabric allows.
